Oh, I'm on now, am I? Um. Hi.
Born in Kuching, Sarawak, which is on the island of Borneo. Went to school in decidedly uninteresting schools in Singapore (the highlight of each year was exams), and then on a whim, decided to study at Oxford. After much consideration, I decided to read Engineering Science, being totally unimaginative.
At Oxford, I soon realised that Engineering was quite, um, boring. Except for the interesting bits, of course. Was at Keble 1995-9, made loads of friends at Oxford, was superbly pretentious and intellectual. Oh yes.
I suppose the highlight of my time there was actually getting a first. Oh yes, still my greatest achievement - and I'm sad, I suppose, when I confess that I enjoy writing "first-class honours" on my CV. Heh.
I didn't manage to get funding to do a DPhil (ie a PhD), so I had no choice but to start working. In my infinite wisdom, I worked in management consulting for about a year and a bit before fleeing, not in terror or horror, but in depression. Took 5 months to rediscover myself, and remember what I used to like and enjoy.
Then got a job as an engineer at a gas / chemicals plant, and hated the job. Too operational, and I don't believe in "just keeping it running". Now working as a business analyst.
Still trying to find enough money to do a doctorate. Still refuse to give up on the dream. Still refuse to have a boring job in an office when I could be doing something more with my life.
